Talking Carthy at Cecil Sharp House, 24 August

On Monday 24 August I'm on a panel at Cecil Sharp House, talking about Martin Carthy. Eliza Carthy and Kevin Boyd are on it with me, Mark Radcliffe's hosting, and Martin himself will be in the room. Eliza and I will also playing a short musical interlude to celebrate the great man/daddy on the night.

The occasion is the launch of Along The Road Forever: Live at the BBC, a 20-CD set of Martin's BBC recordings curated by Colin Harper, running from 1965 to 2022. 328 tracks, 22 and a half hours, remastered by Pete Reynolds. It covers Martin solo, duetting with Dave Swarbrick and with Eliza, and sessions from Steeleye Span, the Albion Country Band, Brass Monkey, the Watersons, Waterson:Carthy and Wilson Carthy. There's an 80-page book to go with it, essays by Clinton Heylin and Kevin Boyd, and a signed 1971 Keith Morris photograph.

I toured with Martin in 2023, and somewhere in the months since he stopped being an influence I studied and became a dear friend. I look forward to our phone chats and the chance to get to see him in person, which is why I'm so delighted that he'll be there with us at Cecil Sharp House, albeit as a guest of honour rather than a performer.
